After you enter search criteria, any messages within the search scope that match are listed on the results screen, with the flag, subject/sender/recipient, body, message size, date, and conversation columns for each one. The display looks like this:
Viewing message content
To read a specific message from the results, click the body preview button to view it inline, or click the subject to open the full message in a new window.
A. At the top-right of the message view, right-click to save the message as an EML file.
B. Use the small icons to perform related actions.
C. Use this button to forward the message to a chosen mailbox.
D. If the message has an attachment, right-click on the attachment to save it (see the note below).
E. The message view offers "First," "Previous," "Next," and "Last" controls to navigate through the search results. If a result is only available as an abstract mail database, the view skips it automatically.
Note about attachments inside archives: if a message's attachment is ee.eml (aa.zip (bb.zip (bb.doc, bb.txt), cc.doc)) and the keyword was matched inside cc.doc, "Show Match" displays cc.doc — not aa.zip.
Plain-text reading mode
Available in MailBase V6 SP2 and later.
To protect against malicious content embedded in mail, MailBase offers a plain-text reading mode that renders the message body as text only. With Plain-text reading enabled, the view looks like this:
Configuration
The mode can be turned on system-wide or per domain.
System path: /webmail/etc/mbshowmail.conf
Per-domain path: /webmail/usr/[hash]/[domain]/etc/mbshowmail.conf
|
[webmail@mb ~]$ vim /webmail/etc/mbshowmail.conf Text_mode = 1 <=== 0 = render HTML for all roles (default); 1 = render TXT for all roles; 2 = render TXT for users only |
When results exceed 10,000
If the result count is very large, the system displays the results immediately but shows the matched count as "10,000+" so search performance is not affected. (The default display cap depends on your company's policy — it may range from 10,000+ to 1,000,000+; check with your system administrator.) To obtain the exact count, click the icon and the system computes the precise number of matches. The steps are below.
Click the icon.
The exact total is shown.
After clicking, the icon is removed and the total message count is displayed.
Action icons
Different icons trigger different actions, as illustrated:
The functions are:
| Icon | Name | Description |
| Show conversation | Clicks this button to display every message that belongs to this message's conversation thread. | |
| Add to list | Adds the message to the mail list. | |
| Remove from list | Removes the message from the mail list. |
Pagination display
The search engine chooses different pagination styles depending on the result count, displayed at the top-right of the table. The search results also offer several management features to help administrators find the data they need quickly. The pagination styles are:
| Pages | Display |
| 1–9 | |
| 10–29 | |
| 30+ |
Dynamic sorting
You can re-sort the search results by subject, sender, message size, or date in ascending (+) or descending (-) order. Simply click the corresponding column header at the top of the table, as illustrated:
Changing the search criteria
After the initial results appear, you can add further conditions to narrow them down and find the information you need more quickly. The steps are:
Click "Change criteria"
In the results page, click the Change criteria button.
Refine the criteria
The screen switches to Advanced Search with your previous criteria pre-filled. Add or adjust the conditions and click Search.
